Eagle Valley Successfully Completes Night Two of The 2010 Race Season
By Gene Harmelink
April 25, 2010, After starting eighth in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature and patiently working his way through the competitors in front of him, veteran Super Stock wheelman, Mark Stender, went on to win during the second night of the 2010 racing season at Eagle Valley Speedway. Joining Stender in victory lane was Kevin Buzzy Adams who also came from eighth to win the WISSOTA Modified feature. Matt Leer tried out a new setup and was successful in winning his first feature of 2010 in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature, while Zach Manley drove a very aggressive race coming from ninth to take the WISSOTA Street Stock prize. Young Nick Wojcik kept all competitors at bay in the Eagle Valley Pure Stocks and Dustin LaBlonde went on to take his second win of the 2010 race season in his Eagle Valley Hornet.
Wayne Dean and Darrel Hazelton led the field to the start of the WISSOTA Super Stock feature with Hazelton off to an early lead for the first eight laps with Dean right on his bumper. It was during lap nine that Mark Stender made the pass around Dean to take the second spot while Hazelton continued to lead. Stender, who obviously had the car to beat, drove around Hazelton during lap eleven as Hazelton dropped to second with Dean still in contention for the win in third. Two successive cautions after laps seventeen and eighteen realigned the field with Dean making the pass on Hazelton for second as Stender drove away in the lead. In the end it was Stender with the victory to complete a sweep, Dean in second, followed by: Hazelton, Dave Mass, and Eric Olson.
Mark Gerth and Matt Leer were the first two cars to accept the green at the start of the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature. Gerth was off to an early lead trying to pick up his third feature win of the short 2010 race season. Leer, who had made substantial changes to the rear end of his car during the week, was not about to see Gerth get another win and passed Gerth during lap seven. This race only had one caution occurring prior to the completion of lap one and then ran caution free, so once Leer made the pass, his next challenge was lapped traffic. Leer was able to maneuver through lapped traffic to take the win, and complete a sweep, with Gerth still giving chase. Shane Halaopka, who ran third all feature long, finished third followed by Brad Hudson and last weeks winner, Jason Zdroik.
With two exciting feature in the books, the WISSOTA Modifieds were up next with Mike Anderson and Luke Schilling on the front row. Schilling took advantage of a quick start and led the first two laps with Anderson right behind him. A caution, after lap two, for a spinning Mark Hanson in turn one, realigned the field and it was Kevin “Buzzy” Adams who would quickly work his way down low to take the lead away from Schilling as Schillings car slid high in turns one and two. With Adams in the lead and Anderson giving chase, the race continued. Adams went on to drive away from the field, to complete a sweep, with Anderson having to settle for second followed by David Baxter, who had run third most of the race, Schilling, and Mark Hanson who had successfully worked his way back.
Simon Wahlstrom and Cody Kummer were on the front row for the start of the WISSOTA Street Stock feature with Kummer taking an early lead. Kummers lead was short-lived, however, as Zach Manley, who had started ninth, shot to the lead by the end of lap two after aggressively passing everyone in his path. Manley led the first ten laps as Danny Richards pestered him for the lead. Richards was successful in grabbing the lead during lap eleven and led two laps, but Manley had the taste of victory in his mouth and wanted to satisfy his hunger, taking the lead once again with three laps to go. Manley went on to take the win, and complete a sweep, with Richards in second followed by Kummer, Doug Wojcik, and Dan Bork.
The Eagle Valley Pure Stocks were up next with Dalton Hazelton and Nick Wojcik leading the field to the green flag. Young Hazelton must have thought it was pick on Dalton night as he was punted two successive times in turn one prior to the completion of lap one. Once the race got started, Nick Wojcik quickly took the lead with George Richards in hot pursuit. This race ran caution free as Wojcik continued to lead. Richards did lead lap ten, but Wojcik managed to come back for the win with Richards having to settle for second followed by Mike Harshman, Josh Bach, and Robert Wahlstrom.
Last up for the night were the Eagle Valley Hornets with Mike Schreck and Rocky Kempe leading the field to the starters stand for the green flag. As is usually the case, the Hornets provide plenty of early action in their feature with lots of attrition occurring throughout the course of the twelve laps. Rocky Kempe was off to an early lead, leading the first four laps, but his night ended when he threw a tire in turn one, ending his night. With Kempe out of the picture, last weeks winner, Dustin La Blonde, assumed the lead to eventually take the win, and complete the sweep, over the remaining four competitors whose rides had not succumbed. Rounding out the top five were: Mark Ryskoski, Cori Block, Jay Welk, and Mike Schreck.
Check out a non-racing event on Saturday, May 1, when Eagle Valley hosts the Bad Habbit Car Club Show and Swap Meet from 10:00 to 4:00. Racing resumes on Sunday, May 2 with a regular night of racing. Be there When the Valley Heats Up!
