Doar Wins the Dart Challenge Series Late Model Race at Eagle Valley Jim Falls, WI By Gene Harmelink Pat Doar bested the field on Sunday, July 5, to take the win as Eagle Valley hosted a Dart Challenge Series for WISSOTA Late Models race. Jimmy Mars was declared the hard charger and Don Copp was the winner of Debbies Dash For The Pole. Don Copp and Pat Doar led the field to the green flag for the start of the Dart Challenge Series race with Copp taking an early lead, leading the first twelve laps of the feature. By lap thirteen, Doar, who had been hounding Copp since the start of the race, made the pass for the lead with Copp dropping to second. Lance Matthees, who had started fifth, ran third, Jimmy Mars, who had started eighth, ran fourth, and Winnipeg, MBs Ricky Weiss, who had started third, ran fifth. Twenty laps into the forty-lap feature Doar continued to lead with the top five remaining the same as Rick Hanestad, who had started ninth, ran sixth and Scott Gilberts, who had started seventh, ran seventh. Despite having to maneuver through lapped traffic on many occasions, Doar was able to hang on to the first spot to take the win. Copp, Matthees, Mars, and Weiss rounded out the top five. Dalton Yohnk and Grant Southworth were on the front row for the start of the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature with Southworth shooting to an early lead. Southworth led the first five laps of the feature, but it was Ronnie Rihn, after starting eighth and picking off cars as the first five laps were completed, who would take the lead at the end of lap six. With Rihn in the lead, Southworth dropped to second as Jesse Glenz, who had started sixth, ran third, Yohnk ran fourth, and Scott Erickson, who had started third, ran fifth. Half-way through the feature, Rihn still led while the others in the top five remained the same with the exception of Matt Leer who had moved into fifth, after starting ninth. As Rihn pulled away from the rest of the field to take the win, Southworth held on to second, Glenz to third, Shane Halopka finished fourth after making a late race burst after starting seventh and running sixth for some time, and Leer finished fifth. In what proved to be the best race of the night, the WISSOTA Super Stock feature began with Chad Zastrow and Paul Erikson starting one and two. Erikson, coming off a feature win at Red Cedar Speedway on Friday night, led the first eleven laps of the feature, with the exception of lap eight, with Eric Olson, who had started fourth, in second, Aaron Wilson, who had started fifth, in third, Mike Keller, who had started sixth, in fourth, and Mark Stender, who had started seventh, in fifth. By lap twelve, Olson had snatched the lead with Erikson in second and Wilson in third. As Olson, Erikson, and Wilson battled tooth and nail for first, Keller and Stender fought it out for what remained of the top five with Shane Kisling, who had started eighth, thrown in for good measure. Despite repeated attempts by Erikson, Wilson, and Keller to take the lead away, Olson held on for the win with Keller finishing second, Wilson finishing third, Stender in fourth, and Kisling in fifth. Tony Falkner and Rick Weir led the rest of the Eagle Valley Pure Stocks to the flag stand for the start of their feature. Weir was the early leader, leading the first three laps. A caution after lap three realigned the field. George Richards, who had started eighth, and was running fourth prior to the caution, used his patented restart move to surge to the front to take the lead after the completion of lap four. Richards soon put distance between himself and the rest of the field, but Zach Manley, who had started fifth put on a charge to get within striking distance of Richards. Fortunately, for Richards, Manleys charge was a bit too late and Richards went on for the win, with Manley having to settle for second. Rounding out the top five were: Falkner, Cody Kummer, who had started sixth, and Josh Wahlstrom, who had started third. Dustin LaBlonde and Mike Peters buzzed to the starting line as the Eagle Valley Hornets lined up for their feature. LaBlonde took an early and commanding lead early with Peters settling in for second, Pual Monpas, who had started fourth in third, Rocky Kempe, who had started fifth in fourth, and Brandon Davis, who had started sixth, in fifth. LaBlonde never looked back as he cruised to the hive for the win. LaBlonde didnt know how lucky he was, however, as Peters put on a final burst of speed. Rounding out the top five were: Monpas, Shawn Warner, who had started tenth, and Davis. Racing action resumes on Sunday, July 12, when Eagle Valley will be Racing for a Reason as it will be breast cancer awareness night. The Fastrak Late Models will be joining the WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks, the Eagle Valley Pure Stocks and Hornets on July 12. It should be a great show as once again The Valley Heats Up! Keep in mind that it is hot laps are at 5:30 and racing begins at 6:00.
