Schilling, Gerth, Anderson, Fjorden Nord Win WISSOTA/Amsoil Features at Eagle Valley Jim Falls, WI, May 2, 2010 By Gene Harmelink WISSOTA Super Stock driver, Lance Schilling, won his first ever Eagle Valley Speedway feature after pulling away from the rest of the field in dramatic fashion during Sunday nights races. Mark Gerth picked up his first Eagle Valley Speedway win of the 2010 racing season in the Midwest Modified division as did Mike Anderson in his Modified. Chanda Fjorden Nord took top honors in her WISSOTA Street Stock while Danny Richards and Mark Ryskoski bested the rest of the Eagle Valley Pure Stocks and Hornets. Travis Anderson and Mark Gerth led the field to the green for the start of the WISSOTA/AMSOIL Midwest Modified feature with Gerth gaining a quick advantage at the end of lap one. Gerth held on strong as the rest of the field tried to keep up. Three early cautions, one which sent fourth running, Nick Koehler, to the rear for spinning between turns three and four, regrouped the field with Gerth once again assuming the lead. As the cars came around for the fourth lap, with Gerth still in control, Matt Leer began to challenge for the lead, but Gerth held off his every move until the final lap when Cory Jackson spun coming out of turn three and Leer passed Gerth and appeared to take the win at the checkered. It was determined, however, that the yellow had been thrown and the official results were taken from the white flag lap, giving Gerth his first win of the 2010 racing season at Eagle Valley Speedway. Leer had to settle for second with Grant Southworth, Brad Hudson, and Bob Wood rounding out the top five. The WISSOTA Super Stocks were up next in what is turning out to be a very strong and completive field for the 2010 racing season. Rookie, Chad Tarvis and second year driver, Lance Schilling, were on the pole for the start of this feature with Schilling taking the early lead. It was all Schilling as the race progressed with Schilling pulling away from the field and checking out midway through the feature. Three successive cautions, after lap fourteen, realigned the cars with Schilling once again taking the lead, this time to be challenged by Shane Kisling who had come from fifth and Mark Stender, who had come from third. Schilling, though, was just too fast on this race night and held off all comers to take his first feature win at Eagle Valley Speedway with Kisling in second, Stender in third, Wayne Dean in fourth, and Paul Erikson in fifth. Michael Truscott and Mike Anderson were on the front row for the start of the WISSOTA Modified feature with Anderson showing muscle early, taking the lead by the end of lap one with Truscott hot on his heels. Anderson soon proved to be too strong for the rest of the field as he began to separate himself from the pack. By the end of lap four, Anderson had established quite a margin of lead. By lap ten, Anderson was nearly a full turn ahead of the field, but Dave Cain, who had started seventh, was beginning to show some signs of challenge after consistently picking off a car or two every few laps. By lap fifteen, Anderson was still in command with Cain and Truscott giving chase, but Anderson proved to be too much for the rest of the field and by race end he had captured his first win of the 2010 Eagle Valley race season. Rounding out the top five were: Cain, Truscott, Jay Richardson, and Kevin Adams. In WISSOTA Street Stock action, Simon Wahlstrom and Travis Hazelton led the field to the green, for the start, with Hazelton taking an early lead. This race was marred by three early cautions, but Hazelton held on strong to lead the first seven laps of the race. By lap eight, though, Hazelton was passed by Mike Knudtson. At this point in the race, racing for the lead went four wide with Hazelton dropping to second, Chanda Fjorden Nord moved up to third and Danny Richards moved up to fourth. Knudtson led for just one lap and was passed by Chanda Fjorden Nord who went on to take the eventual win and sweep. Rounding out the top five were: Knudtson, Richards, Hazelton, and Butch Kummer. In Eagle Valley Pure Stock action, Clay Potaczek and Robert Wahlstrom were first to take the green with Wahlstrom grabbing the early lead, leading the first nine laps with Nick Wojcik and Mike Harshman giving chase. A caution, during lap ten, realigned the field with Danny Richards taking advantage of the restart to snatch the lead and the eventual win and sweep. Rounding out the top five were: Wojcik, Wahlstrom, Harshman, and Karl Knopps who had run fourth or fifth most of the night. Last on the track were the Eagle Valley Hornets, with Bo Verbick and Jay Welk on the front row. Rocky Kempe, who had started sixth, took the early lead. Kempe led the first six laps with Mark Ryskoski, who had started seventh, giving chase. Kempe and Ryskoski separated themselves from the field and Ryskoski took the lead by the end of lap seven. Ryskoski never looked back as he went on for the win and sweep as Kempes car gave up the ghost. Rounding out the top five were: Dustin LaBlonde, Jay Welk, Cori Block, and Mike Schreck.
