Buzzy’s Father’s Day Win on Adam’s Automotive Night at Eagle Valley By
Gene Harmelink On Sunday, June 15, the races at Eagle Valley Speedway near
Jim Falls, WI, were presented by Adam’s Automotive of Cameron, WI.
Kevin “Buzzy” Adams presented his dad, Adam’s Automotive
owner Dave Adams, with the gift of a win in the WISSOTA/Amsoil Modified
feature race. Mark Stender
also picked up his first win of the season in the WISSOTA Super Stock
division, while Shane Halopka made his dad, Gene, proud with a win in his
WISSOTA Midwest Modified. Danny
and George Richards did it up right for their dad by finishing first and
second in the Eagle Valley Pure Stock division and Travis Anderson picked
up another win in his Eagle Valley Hornet. The WISSOTA/Amsoil Midwest Modifieds were the first division
to take to the track with John Moravec and Dan Svee on the front row.
The race began with a thud and an early caution when Tom Johnson
spun coming out of turn three on the first lap.
On the restart, after the caution, “the big one” happened as
Moravec, Dalton Yohnk, Mark Gerth, and heat winner, Michael Truscott,
tangled in turn two. The end
result was that Gerth’s car was propelled into the air coming to rest
with its front end stuck in the windshield area of Moravec’s car.
Fortunately, no one was hurt, but all the cars sustained damage and
were out of the race. With those two cautions out of the way and no laps completed,
the race continued with Svee taking the lead followed closely by Shane
Halopka, Brad Hudson, heat winner, Wayne Dean, and Jason Swan. Svee maintained the lead for the first seven laps of the
race, but was continually being hounded by Halopka and Hudson.
A caution after lap seven for a spinning Randy Bargender, realigned
the field and on the restart Halopka shot to the lead with Svee and Hudson
close behind. Meanwhile, Matt
Leer had been steadily working his way up from his twentieth starting spot
and was running fifth. By lap
fourteen, Hudson had passed Svee for second and Leer had moved up to
fourth while Ronnie Rihn, who had started in the rear early in the race
due to a flat right front tire, had moved up to fifth. Halopka maintained the lead and took the win, completing a
sweep. Rounding out the top
five were: Hudson, Svee, Leer
and Rihn. The WISSOTA/Amsoil Super Stock feature was up next with Rick
Hallquist and Ryan Olson on the front row.
An early caution, prior to the completion of lap one, for
heat winner, Curt Myers, whose car came into contact with the wall
in turn three, realigned the field with Myers continuing in the back of
the pack. Mark Stender, who
was a heat winner, had started third and took the lead after the
completion of lap one. Another
caution, this time for a wreck involving Ryan Olson, Steve Thomas and Chad
Johnson ended with only Thomas able to continue.
Racing resumed with Thomas getting his spot back.
Once again, Stender made a quick move to take the lead with Mike
Keller, Chad Zastrow and Steve Thomas in hot pursuit.
By lap five, Paul Erikson had moved up from his fifth place
starting spot to take over third, but as he moved forward his car showed a
lot of smoke and smelled of burnt rubber.
Stender continued to lead but by lap eleven Erikson was slowing and
eventually dropped off into the pits by the end of lap twelve.
At the end of lap twelve, Stender was still in the lead, Keller was
in second, Zastrow was in third, Thomas was in fourth and Eric Olson had
moved into fifth from his twelfth-place starting spot. By lap sixteen, Curt Myers had taken over the fifth spot with
Olson dropping to sixth. Myers
was able to pick up one more spot by race end with Thomas dropping to
fifth. Stender got his first
win of the season and a clean sweep as well.
Rounding out the top five were:
Keller, Zastrow, Myers, and Thomas. Another strong field of WISSOTA/Amsoil
Modifieds next took to the track for their feature with rookie
drivers Cory Crapser and Keith Tourville on the front row.
This feature started with an early caution prior the completion of
lap one when Mark Hanson spun coming out of turn one on what would have
been the first lap. The race resumed with heat winner, Crapser, taking an
early and commanding lead. Crapser
led for the first three laps with Paul Knauf, Rich Loftus, heat winner,
Mike Anderson, and Kevin Adams following.
Just prior to what should have been the completion of lap four,
Crapser spun coming out of three and collected Anderson with both cars
sustaining enough damage to have to go off on the hook.
When racing resumed, Knauf took the lead with Adams, Loftus, Bryan
Nayes, and Hanson close behind. Knauf
led for the next five laps but was then passed by Adams.
Once Adams had the lead, he was not about to relinquish it and try
as he might, Knauf could not regain the lead.
At race end, Adams was the winner followed by:
Knauf, Loftus, Nayes, and Hanson. Ajay Christianson and Jeff Antezak were on the front row for
the start of the WISSOTA/Amsoil Street Stocks.
This race ran caution-free with Christianson taking an early lead,
leading for the first four laps. By
the end of lap five, Matt Wolfe, who had started third and had been
running second, passed for the lead with Christianson dropping to second
followed by heat winner, Mike Conrad, Clark Swartz and Antezak.
Christianson regained the lead for one lap, but was then passed by
Wolfe one more time as the two switched places.
The order remained the same until lap twelve when Tommy Richards,
who had started ninth, moved
up to take the fifth spot as Antezak dropped back in the pack. Wolfe went on to take the win with Conrad, Swartz, Richards,
and Christianson rounding out the top five. With Simon Wahlstrom and Kyle Bitney on the front row, the
Eagle Valley Pure Stocks were up next.
Mike Knudtson, who had started third, was off to an early lead, but
that lead was short-lived as heat winner, Danny Richards, took over the
lead two laps into the race. Meanwhile,
Knudtson settled into second, George Richards was third, Doug Wojcik was
fourth and heat winner, Jason Lang, was running fifth.
The two Richard’s boys fought it out for the remainder of the
race while Wojcik maintained third and Knudtson and Lang battled for
fourth. In the end, Danny
Richards had taken the win while George Richards had to settle for second. Wojcik held onto the third spot, Lang finished fourth and
Knudtson rounded out the top five. They may not be many, but the entertainment they provide is
plenty. The Eagle Valley
Hornets took to the track for the last feature of the night with Rocky
Kempe and Mackenzie Olson on the front row.
Mackenzie’s sister, heat winner, Brittany Olson, took an early
lead after starting third with Travis Anderson close behind.
Brittany Olson led for the first six laps while Travis Anderson
patiently waited in second to take the lead.
Kempe, Bob Anderson and Mackenzie Olson rounded out the top five at
the time. By lap seven,
Travis Anderson made his move, taking the lead, and Brittany Olson dropped
to second as the rest of the field remained the same.
Lap eleven saw a change with Kempe moving up to third.
By race end, Travis Anderson was declared the winner with Brittany
Olson, Kempe, Bob Anderson and Mackenzie Olson rounding out the top five. Racing continues on Sunday, June 22, when the pits open at
4:00, the cut off time is 5:30, with hot laps at 5:30 and racing at 6:00.
