Australian Wins IRA Sprint Feature
and Myers Picks up Fourth Win of the Week

By Gene Harmelink

A standing room only crowd enjoyed a great night of racing at Eagle Valley Speedway on Sunday night.  There was plenty of racing to go around as there were make-up features in the WISSOTA/Amsoil Super Stocks and the EVS Pure Stocks in addition to a complete IRA Sprint, WISSOTA/Amsoil Midwest Modified and Super Stock shows along with a complete EVS Pure Stock Show.

The main event for the evening was the IRA Sprint show with Australian native Brooke Tatnell taking the win, leading from flag-to-flag.   Donny Goeden took over the second spot eight laps into the race and finished second, while Brian Kristan came from fifteenth to finish third.  Additional official information was not available at press time, but you may refer to:  http://www.irasprints.org for further information.

In Baxter Engine and Baxter’s Speed Shop WISSOTA/Amsoil Super Stock make-up action, Curt Myers took the win after starting second.  Myers picked up his fourth win of the weekend with this win, all but one of them being a clean sweep.  Paul Erikson finished second after starting on the pole, Cory Davis finished third after starting third, Mark Stender finished fourth after starting fifth and Mike Keller finished fifth after starting fourth.  There was not a whole lot of passing during this feature but Myers and Erikson enjoyed quite a margin of victory over the remainder of the field.

In the EVS Pure Stock make-up feature, Danny Richards again dominated the field after starting on the pole, completing a sweep.  This was Richards’ fourteenth win of the year.  Jason Lang finished second after starting second, George Richards finished third, after starting third, Doug Wojcik, coming off a feature win at Rice Lake on Saturday , finished fourth, after starting sixth, and Cody Kummer finished fifth, after starting tenth.

In regular WAXX, 104.5 sponsored racing action, the WISSOTA/Amsoil Midwest Modifieds were led to the flag by Mark Clements and Brad Hudson.  The start of this feature was plagued by three early cautions, but once those cautions were history, no further cautions occurred during the race.  Mark Clements immediately took the lead and led for the first six laps.  It was during lap seven that Shane Halopka, who had started sixth, took the lead after patiently working his way to the front.  Halopka led the remainder of the race, completing a sweep, after building up a substantial lead with Dan Svee moving into second by lap eight and holding that position to the end.  By lap nine, Mark Gerth had moved into third, after starting fifth, holding that position to the end.  Rounding out the top five were Matt Leer and Mark Clements.

The WISSOTA/Amsoil Super Stocks began their regular night feature with Rod Dregney and Rich Bishop on the front row.  Dregney led the first six laps holding off challenges by Aaron Wilson, who had started third, and Bishop.  By lap seven, Bishop had gone to an upper groove and succeeded in passing Dregney.  A caution after lap ten saw Curt Myers going to the pits with a flat tire and other damage.  On the restart, Bishop once again shot to the lead, again using the top of the track to do so.  Dregney and Wilson did all that they could to hang on, but Bishop proved to be too much for the rest of the field, taking the win.  Rounding out the top five were:  Dregney, Wilson, Shawn Huse, who had started fifth, and Eric Olson, who had started eleventh.

The Eagle Valley Pure Stocks finished off the night’s racing program with Ashley Husby and Nick Wojcik on the front row.  Husby took an early lead with Brent Szymoniak, who had started third, moving into second.  It was during lap four that Danny Richards kicked in the after-burner and blasted to the lead, after starting eighth.  By lap seven, Danny Richards was joined by George Richards, who had started ninth, with Husby falling to third.  By lap nine it was Danny Richards, George Richards and Jason Lang, who had started sixth.  By race end, Danny Richards had once again dominated, taking his fifteenth win of the year and his second of the night.  Rounding out the top five were:  George Richards, Lang, Doug Wojcik, who had started fifth, and Husby.

Racing resumes on Sunday, August 3, with a full program of racing, presented by Quality Propane.   In addition, Modified, Street Stock, and Hornet make-up features from Baxter Engines and Baxter’s Speed Shop night will be run.

Hot laps are at 5:30 with racing starting at 6:00 and as always there’s a two bike giveaway every Sunday night, sponsored by Kelly Oium Well Drilling & Pump Service and Chris Oium Blacktopping.
