Adams Wins His Twenty-Fourth of the Year at Eagle Valley Speedway by
Gene Harmelink
A nearly perfect weather night greeted those in attendance at Eagle
Valley Speedway on Sunday, August 24, as they enjoyed the night’s races
presented by River Country Coop.
Just one race remains on the schedule, that being the seventh
annual Lonnie Leu Memorial on August 31 with enhanced pay in all classes
provided by Southworth Chevrolet and Lisa Leu.
Races previously scheduled for September 5 and 6 have been
cancelled.
In WISSOTA/Amsoil Modified action, Dan Hesch and Kevin Rogers
started on the front row with Hesch taking an early lead.
A caution for heat winner, Mike Anderson, spinning in turns three
and four, prior to the completion of lap three, resulted in Anderson going
to the pits with his night done and the field being reset with Hesch once
again taking the lead.
It was heat winner, Kevin Adams, who garnered the biggest advantage
from the caution as he moved from his eighth-place starting spot to take
second by the end of lap three. By
lap five, Adams had passed Hesch for the lead, with Robby Bunkleman hot on
his heels. Meanwhile, Rogers
dropped to fifth after running third, and Paul Niznik retained his
fourth-place starting spot.
By lap eleven, Adams had outdistanced the field and was well on his
way to his twenty-fourth win of the year , his third win of the weekend,
and a clean sweep for the night after previous weekend wins at Kopellah
and Rice Lake Speedways on Friday and Saturday.
Rounding out the top five were:
Bunkelman, Shaun Kreyer, who started third and had dropped back to
sixth at one point in the race, Niznik, and Mark Hanson who started tenth
and moved up to fifth by lap six.
The WISSOTA/Amsoil Super Stock feature saw Jeff Dregney and Mike
Keller on the front row coming to the green flag for the start of their
feature. Jeff Dregney was off
to any early lead, leading lap one with heat winner, Rod Dregney, who
started third, following closely behind.
Lap two saw Rod Dregney taking the lead and Jeff Dregney in second.
Dregney and Dregney ran first and second for the first six laps and
then there was a caution for a spinning Chad Johnson.
On the restart, with Johnson in the back, Curt Myers shot to the
lead from third. Myers had
started sixth, but was on the move prior to the caution.
With Myers in the lead all the rest of the field could do was to
watch him put distance between himself and everyone else.
It was during lap thirteen that Myers ran over a cone in turns one
and two causing the cone to come to rest on the track surface, resulting
in a caution. Myers was sent
to the back, but opted to go to the pits instead, ending his night and his
hopes for his twenty-first win of the year.
On the restart, Eric Olson, who had been running second after
starting fifth, inherited the lead with Rod Dregney in second.
Olson and Dregney ran first and second for the remainder of the
race with Dregney attempting to pass on several occasions, but on each
attempt, Olson was able to pull away just a bit.
Meanwhile, Mike Keller had worked his way up to third after falling
to fifth from his third-place starting spot and Shane Kisling ran fourth
after dropping to sixth from his fourth-place starting spot.
Steve Hallquist ended up in fifth after starting tenth.
By race end, it was Olson taking his third win of the season with
Rod Dregney in second, Mike Keller in third, Shane Kisling in fourth, and
Steve Hallquist in fifth.
Heat winner, Jesse Glenz, and Nick Koehler started on the front row
of the WISSOTA/Amsoil Midwest Modified feature.
Glenz led lap one while heat winner, Matt Leer, who had started
fifth, moved up for an early challenge.
Leer was successful in his challenge and made the pass on Glenz to
take the lead by the end of lap two, with Glenz in second, Ronnie Rihn,
who started seventh ran in third, Nathan Thums, who started third ran
fourth, and Mark Gerth, who started sixth ran fifth.
A red flag was thrown after lap four as the car of Cole Neitzel
slowed in the back stretch as his engine compartment became engulfed in
flames. The fire was put out
and Neitzel suffered no injuries. Once
racing resumed, there was another caution for heat winner, Shane Halopka,
who started eighth, who spun coming out of turn three.
With Halopka in the back, Leer was again off to a lead with Rihn in
his wake.
Lap six saw Leer pulling off into the infield and Rihn inheriting
the lead. Once Rihn was in
the lead, he quickly made work of putting distance between himself and the
rest of the field as the remainder of the race ran caution-free.
In the end it was Rihn taking the win, Gerth in second, Michael
Truscott in third after starting tenth, Nathan Thums in fourth, and Brad
Hudson in fifth after starting ninth.
The WISSOTA/Amsoil feature began with Gary Kasperek and Jimmy
Randall on the front row with Kasperek taking the early lead as Randall
dropped to fifth and Tommy Richards moved to second from his third-place
starting spot.
A caution prior to the completion of lap three for a spinning
Crystal Hanson in turns three and four, sent Hanson to the back.
When racing resumed, Kasperek once again assumed the lead with
Richards giving immediate chase.
By lap four, Richards had made the pass for the lead with Kasperek
settling into the second spot. Jay
Kesan ran third, after starting fourth, heat winner, Clark Swartz, ran
fourth after starting fifth, and Randall ran fifth.
The order remained relatively unchanged for the remainder of the
race until Randall dropped out on the white flag lap.
Richards finished the winner taking his fourth win of the year,
Kasperek finished second, Kesan finished third, Swartz finished fifth, and
Scott Miller, who started sixth and ran sixth for most of the night, came
home fifth.
In caution-free Eagle Valley Pure Stock action, Mike Harshman and
Jay Folz started on the front row. It
was heat winner, Danny Richards, who had started fifth, with a quick
reaction time on the drop of the green.
Richards took the early lead, with Harshman dropping to second and
Folz dropping to sixth.
Richards led the remainder of the race, but there was a great race
for second as George Richards, who had started third, and Jason Lang, who
had started fourth, battled door-to-door during mid-race action.
At race end, Danny Richards had picked up his twenty-third win of
the year, Lang had won the battle for second, George Richards settled for
third, Cody Kummer finished a solid fourth after starting sixth, and Kyle
Bitney finished fifth after starting seventh.
The only race caution of the Eagle Valley Hornet feature occurred
prior to the completion of lap one when Chad Schwartz spun in turn one.
On a total restart, heat winner, Travis Anderson, who had started
fourth, was off to an early lead, one he would never relinquish.
The only change in the order of who ran first, second, third, or
fourth occurred during lap five when Matt Marvin passed Chad Schwartz for
third.
Travis Anderson came home the winner, with Mark Ryskoski, who
started third, finished second, Matt Marvin finished third, and Chad
Schwartz finished fourth. Racing
resumes on Sunday, August 31, for the final race of the season, when
Southworth Chevrolet presents the seventh-annual Lonnie Leu Memorial race
with increased pay. Be there
when the Valley Heats Up! Hot
laps are at 5:30 with racing starting at 6:00 and as always there’s a
