Adams, Hallquist, Halopka, Kesan, Richards, and Anderson
All Winners at Eagle Valley

By Gene Harmelink

On Saturday, August 9, Eagle Valley Speedway hosted the first night of a two-night special on a night of nearly perfect weather.

In WISSOTA/Amsoil Modified action, Kent Baxter and Mark Hanson led the field to the green flag for the start of the race.  Baxter was off to a quick lead, leading the first two laps with Rich Loftus, who had started third, and heat winner, Kevin   Adams, who had started fourth, hot on his heels.  A caution after lap two for contact between Hanson and Luke Schilling resulted in Schilling going to the pits on the hook and Hanson being sent to the back.

On the restart, Baxter again took the lead, but Adams saw his chance and by lap four had taken the lead.  From that point on the race ran caution free and all the rest of the field could do was to try to maintain their positions, as Adams drove off for a commanding win, completing a sweep.  Rounding out the top five were:  Loftus, Baxter, Mike Goodremote in the QQ, and Jake Hartung.

The WISSOTA/Amsoil Super Stocks came to the starting line with heat winner, Curt Myers, and Rick Hallquist on the front row.  Hallquist took an early lead, edging out Myers as the cars came out of the front shoot and Myers had to settle for second, while Mark Stender ran third, Steve Thomas ran fourth, and Rick Hallquist ran fifth.  Steve Hallquist had the field covered and by lap ten Thomas had taken over second, Myers had dropped to third, Stender ran fourth, and Mike Keller ran fifth.

The only caution of the feature occurred after lap seventeen, when Thomas spun in turn four.  On the restart, Myers indicated to officials that he had tapped Thomas, contributing to the spin and as a result, Myers was sent to the back.  Yes, Myers, chasing national points, “manned up” and did the right thing and the crowd acknowledged their approval for his honesty.

From that point on, the race belonged to Hallquist as he pulled away from the rest of the field for his first ever feature win.  Rounding out the top five were:  Thomas, Keller, Stender, and Steve Hallquist.

Mark Thomas and Kyle Jumbeck led the WISSOTA/Amsoil Midwest Modifieds to the flag stand for the start of their feature.  Jumbeck jumped to an early lead, with Thomas in second, Shane Halopka, who had started third, in third, heat winner, Mark Gerth, who had started fifth in fourth, and heat winner, Jared Loos, who had started eighth in fifth.  Jumbeck led the first four laps of this caution-free feature, but during lap five slid high in turn two, allowing Halopka an opportunity to take the lead.

Once Halopka was in the lead it was just a matter of time before he separated himself from the rest of the field, but Thomas and Gerth did give chase with neither of them being able to catch Halopka who drove to his sixteenth win of the year.  Rounding out the top five were:  Gerth, Thomas, Looss and Ronnie Rihn, who had started seventh.

WISSOTA/Amsoil Street Stock action saw Ryan Lindner and Butch Kummer leading the field of 15 cars to the start of their feature.  Linder led the first lap, with Kummer hanging on for second, Jay Kesan, who had started fourth in third, heat winner, Clark Swartz, who had started eighth in fourth, and Josh Amans, who had started third in fifth.  By lap two Kesan had passed for the lead and took command of the race.

Midway through the feature, Kesan was still in the lead with heat winner, Tommy Richards, who had started fifth, in second, Swartz in third, Linder in fourth and Kummer in fifth.  With two laps to go, Kesan led by a comfortable margin, Richards ran second, Swartz was third, Linder was fourth, and Amans had regained a few spots to run fifth.  Kesan went on to take the win with Richards, Swartz, Linder, and Amans in his wake.

The Eagle Valley Pure Stocks came to the start with heat winner, Zach Manley, and Cody Kummer leading the way.  Manley rocketed out the starting gate taking the lead with Kummer in second, Jason Lang, who had started eighth in third, Ashley Husby, who had started fourth in fourth, and heat winner, Doug Wojcik, who had started sixth, in fifth.

At the halfway point, Manley continued to lead with Danny Richards, who had started fourteenth, moving into second, Lang ran third, Kummer ran fourth, and Wojcik ran fifth.  With three laps to go, Richards put the coals to his machine and made the pass to take the lead and the eventual win.  Rounding out the top five were:  Manley, Lang, Kummer, and Wojcik.

Jerry Zebro and Brittany Olson were on the front row for the start of the Eagle Valley Hornets feature, but it was heat winner, Rocky Kempe, who had started fourth, leading the first five laps.  With five laps into the books, Bob Anderson, who had started fifth had had enough and went for the lead, never to look back.

Anderson put some distance between himself and the rest of the field taking the win by race end.  Rounding out the top five were:  Kempe, Brittany Olson, Dustin LaBlonde, who had started third, and Mackenzie Olson, who had started sixth.

Racing action continues on Sunday, August 10, with the second night of a two-night special.  Upcoming is season championship night on August 17, when Leinenkugel's will be the sponsor.

A big thank you to the following sponsors for additional winnings for the weekend races goes out to:  Cars Auto Body of Cadott, Twists & Tangles of Jim Falls, Elwood Express, LLC of Jim Falls, Rooney Printing Co. of Chppewa Falls, and Riverside Machine & Engineering, Inc. of Chippewa Falls.  Special thanks to “Swanee” for putting it all together!
